2¢ Carmine 104LR92

"the retouched line slanted away from the frame into the bottom margin… others (include) 104LR92, in which the length of the line is shorter"

Comments

Matte states: "Tool mark, exterior bottom frame"

In the Matte collection, his selection of #606 examples contained both 104LR34 and 104LR92. The differences are quite subtle ~ note the retouched upper left top horizontal line.

Leopold Beaudet determined the position using the plate proofs at Library and Archives Canada.

Leo's Notes

  • Retouch to top frame at left stops in left outer oval above right leg of third A. 7.6 mm from left frame. Cavity at right end of the retouch.
  • Engraver’s slip in bottom frame. Begins below the N in CENTS and ends below the 2 in the RNB. Similar slip on 104LR34.
