"Doubling in the left margin from opposite leaf 3 to opposite N, inside the right side of the frame from opposite leaf 3 to opposite A, in and above CAN and outside left center, and in and below AGE and inside right center.
Comments
Possible notch with the short horizontal below the 'E' and the vertical along the right border of the inner oval.

Major re-entry (in Marler)
- Strong doubling in left margin from the N to the middle of leaf 3.
- Strong doubling in left outer oval from the N to the top of leaf 4.
- Strong doubling in top and bottom of C, the bottom of the first A, and the bottom of the left member of the N.
- Strong doubling in the right inner oval from the right foot of the A to leaf 3.
- Strong doubling in the right side of the A, the top and bottom of the G, and all three arms of the E.
- Bottom eight horizontal lines of the UR spandrel extend into the right outer oval.
- Strong doubling to the left of the right frame from the A to the bottom of leaf 4.

On page 374, Marler states: "In 19 Subjects of Plates 1 and 2 there is in the white band around the portrait oval, either below E or at right center, either a single line or a group of lines. Whether this is a consequence of a re-entry or not, the author cannot say, but he considers them not to be of sufficient importance to warrant describing them, particularly as many of them are much the same in their general appearance."
In an article to be published in a future issue of "The Admiral's Log", Leopold Beaudet and I suggest that these "Notch" varieties are actually quite interesting. We have found over 40 different instances and many plate positions have been determined using the plate proofs at Library and Archives Canada.
