2¢ Carmine 14UR15

Traces of a horizontal line through the 'N' of Canada and the 'A' of Postaqe.

Research notes:

There are currently five very similar CPVs on the 2¢ Carmine. One helpful way to differentiate them is to look closely at the upper right corner, where some retouching may occur.

Leo's Notes

Horizontal line through the left outer oval, the diagonal member of the N in CANADA, and the left inner oval. It reappears in the right inner oval and the right edge of the left member of the A in POSTAGE. Smudges where the line would fall in the left outer oval, the right outer oval, and the white area to the right of the UR spandrel. No line in the King’s forehead. Faint horizontal lines on the right side of the LNB and the left side of the RNB.

The subject on the proof has a nick in the UR corner of the frame. The stamp does not. The frame was retouched to remove the nick after the proof was made.

The line goes through the N at the same position as on 12UL93 and 14UR46.

The line on 12UR18 and 14UL26 is slightly lower.

See 12UL93 for details.

We use Statser to measure basic website usage without cookies. The system processes page views, clicks, form submissions without form contents, referrers, browser/device information, error pages, approximate visit duration, and pseudonymous visitor keys. Full IP addresses are not stored permanently by Statser; they are processed briefly on the server to create a pseudonymous visitor key, apply technical exclusions, and optionally resolve approximate GeoIP information. If GeoIP is enabled, the IP address is checked locally against a MaxMind GeoLite2 database to determine the approximate country or city. The visitor IP address is not sent to MaxMind. MaxMind is contacted only to download and update the GeoLite2 database. Detailed data is deleted after the configured detail retention period. For long-term trends, Statser also stores aggregated daily values without individual visitor profiles.
