Leopold Beaudet has identified 19 instances of this left numeral box ‘smudging’ using the plate proofs at LAC. This position has been shown to be found on the printed stamps. An example of 75LL95 is known and does not show the smudging seen on the plate proofs.
Note that the smudging on the plate proofs is usually quite narrow when compared to that seen here, in 75LR88.
Leo's Notes
- Retouch to LL vertical line from above the FJL to the bottom.
- There is also a vertical smudge just inside the left side of the LNB.
Band of heavy smudging about 0.6 mm wide along the entire LNB. This is the most extensive example of smudging.
