"the left crown was inadequately transferred to the plate." Although this is obvious on the proof, the subject was not retouched and the author (Marler) has four copies showing the defective crown. (on the 2¢ carmine)
Comments
Plate 12 was also used to print 2¢ Carmine coil stamps. This CPV has been found on the 2¢ Carmine.
Leo's Notes
- The jewels on the left side of the left crown and the cross are almost missing. The UL corner is not affected.
- Horizontal scratch in the top margin above the left frame and the cross in the left crown (not on stamp)
- The stamp has the short horizontal line in the right margin that is characteristic of design type SRR10; however, the subject on the proof does not.
- Faint vertical guideline in the left margin opposite the LNB and the bottom margin.
- Guide dot in the left margin at the midpoint. Slightly closer to this stamp than the one to its left, 12LL10/10.
- Guide dot in the left margin opposite leaf 4. Mid way between this stamp and the one to its left, 12LL10/10.
