Leo's Notes
In an email, Leo stated…
“Plate imprint blocks from plates 77 and 78 of the 2c carmine have never been reported. This led Marler to muse that these two plates had never been used. See pages 257-258.”
“While examining the proof of plate 78 at the Archives, I spotted a major re-entry on 78UL26 that looked somewhat similar to 62UL42. Here is the description taken from my notes:”
- Re-entry (not in Marler)
- Doubling in ANAD..OSTAG and in the inner oval below ANADA PO.
“The top frame on 78UL26 shows no signs of doubling whereas the top frame on 62UL42 is strongly doubled. However, the letters ANAD OSTAG on 78UL25 show more doubling than 62UL64. Otherwise, the two re-entries are similar.”
If someone has a re-entry that might fit the description of 78UL26, a scan would be appreciated. This would show that plate 78 was used despite the absence of plate imprint material.
