Plate flaw inside the right frame near the crown.

Defective transfer at upper right.

Reiche states "dot UR spandrel, original die"

Research notes:

The flaw in the upper right first attracted my attention.

The stamp is an example of Marler type O2 and thus from plates 4 (part), 6 (part), 7 or 8.

Leo’s description of 8LL71 nicely matches this stamp and confirms the plate position for us.

I also checked Hans Reiche’s work and found fairly conclusive proof that he had recorded the Constant Plate Flaw in 1987.

Defective transfer – Right

Right frame is thin opposite TAGE in POSTAGE.
Right side of the UR spandrel is weak.
The indents on the inside of the right frame are visible.

Mark in the white space to the right of the UR spandrel opposite the cross of the crown.

Guide dot in the right margin at the midpoint.
