A faint horizontal line through the 'N' of Canada to the 'A' of Postage.
Research notes:
There are currently five very similar CPVs on the 2¢ Carmine. One helpful way to differentiate them is to look closely at the upper right corner, where some retouching may occur.
Leo's Notes
- Horizontal line in the left outer oval opposite where the top of the diagonal member of the N begins, the left inner oval, the right inner oval, along the inside border of the left member of the A, the white area to the right of the UR spandrel, and extends into the right margin (the only horizontal line flaw that does so). Similar horizontal line flaws occur on plates 12, 14, and 23.
- Nick in the UR corner of the frame. On plate 14, the frame was retouched to remove the nick on all the subjects with a horizontal line flaw. Not so on plate 23.
- Dot in the LL corner of the bottom loop of the 2 in the LNB.
- Faint nearly vertical scratch in the left margin opposite leaf 3 to the middle of the LNB. The scratch may be perfed out or occur in the left pane margin.
