"a vertical line has been added in the upper right from the top to line 12, slanting outward. As one of a strip of 10 from the upper right pane of Plate 8 its position was established as 8UR7. This subject on the approved plate proof has a defective upper right corner and no such vertical line, so that this is a case in which the retouching was done after the proof had been approved. The top and the right side of the frame which was defective has been retouched but also the lower part of the upper left frame junction line (had also been retouched.)

Leo's Notes

  • The right frame is thin and weak from the UR corner to the bottom of the crown.
  • The top right part of the UR spandrel is weak.

On p. 230, Marler reports having a copy of 8UR7 in which “a vertical line has been added to the upper right from the top to line 12, slanting outward”, and concludes that the stamp was retouched after the proof was made. The stamp was in a plate strip of 10, which confirms the position.

Marler also owned three used copies of this stamp. The stamps have the following features:

  • UR vertical line retouched from line 1 to 12.
  • Right frame is thick opposite the leaves.
  • UR frame junction line is doubled because of retouching.

We use Statser to measure basic website usage without cookies. The system processes page views, clicks, form submissions without form contents, referrers, browser/device information, error pages, approximate visit duration, and pseudonymous visitor keys. Full IP addresses are not stored permanently by Statser; they are processed briefly on the server to create a pseudonymous visitor key, apply technical exclusions, and optionally resolve approximate GeoIP information. If GeoIP is enabled, the IP address is checked locally against a MaxMind GeoLite2 database to determine the approximate country or city. The visitor IP address is not sent to MaxMind. MaxMind is contacted only to download and update the GeoLite2 database. Detailed data is deleted after the configured detail retention period. For long-term trends, Statser also stores aggregated daily values without individual visitor profiles.
