2¢ Carmine 7LL66

Doubling of the outer vertical and bottom lines on the left numeral box.

Leo's Notes

  • The LNB has a second vertical line that slants progressively inward from top to bottom. As a result, the line appears thick except at the top. With care, one can make out two distinct lines in the bottom corner.

  • The LNB also has two lines at the bottom. They converge from left to right, so they appear as a thick line on the left side that reduces to normal thickness towards the right.

  • Because the two sets of lines diverge at the LL corner, the corner appears to have a small bite taken out of it.

  • There is a slight dent in the bottom frame at the LL corner.

Some might conclude that the doubling is due to a re-entry, but it is most likely due to retouching.

Very faint horizontal scratch in the right member of the N in CANADA and the left inner oval.

Guide dot on the right side of the left inner oval.
