2¢ Carmine 6LR96

A distinctive retouch and defective transfer of the vertical line of the left numeral box.

Research notes:

The plate position was identified from notes taken by Leopold Beaudet using the plate proofs at Library and Archives Canada.

Leo's Notes

  • The left frame is weak opposite the bottom half of the LNB and thin at the LL corner. There is a white vertical line in its middle.

  • The bottom frame is very thin at the LL corner, and gradually gets to its normal thickness at the left edge of the 2. There is a nick in the upper side of the bottom frame below the right edge of the 2.

  • The bottom line of the LNB bends slightly to the bottom as it goes to the LL corner and extends past the vertical line without touching it.

  • The vertical line of the LNB stops short of the LL corner, leaving a slight gap at the corner.

This stamp and the two above it are Type O1, not O2.
