A distinctive retouch of the vertical line of the left numeral box and a defective transfer of the lower portion of the left frame.

Research notes:

Confirmed by LB using the plate proofs at LAC.

Leo's Notes

  • The left frame is thick from the LL corner to bottom of the 2. At that point, there is a spur on the outside going upwards. Above the spur, the left frame is slightly thinner than normal to the top of the LNB. Above the top of the LNB, the frame is normal.

  • The vertical line of the LNB is thin and irregular. It thickens just above the LL corner.

  • Slight gap at the LL corner of the LNB because the vertical line stops short.

  • The bottom line of the LNB is slightly thicker than normal from the corner to the left side of the 2.

Small dot in the bottom margin below the right side of the E in CENTS.
