A barely discernable retouch of the upper right vertical line.
Research notes:
Based on Leo’s observations, we may need to find an example in a plate strip to get an accurate image.
Leo's Notes
- Defective transfer – UR (Marler illustrates this in Figure II.21, but does not mention it in the text. Figure II.22 illustrates the same stamp according to its caption, but the weakness due to the defective transfer is no longer apparent. The stamp was apparently expertly retouched after the plate proof was made. Presumably Marler wanted to show this, but nowhere does he mention the retouching in the text.)
- The corner of the UR spandrel is weak. This affects the crown and the horizontal lines in the corner. The top frame is a bit thinner than normal in the UR corner.
- Guide dot in the centre of the right inner oval.
